The Wooden Boat Foundation in Port Townsend, Washington has joined with some of the best sail training vessels in Puget Sound, offering trips 3 hours to 14 days in length, for students 12 years old to adult, on boats as large as 84 feet. The tall ship Pioneer provides a unique classroom in which students can develop environmental awareness and historical perspective. 13   Link   Salem Maritime National Historic Partnership
The Friendship is managed as a partnership between the National Park Service and the Friends of Friendship, Inc., a not for profit corporation organized by the Salem Partnership. The ship will be open for tours at historic DerbyWharf as part of the programs of the Salem Maritime National Historic Site and will sail as an ambassador ship for the Essex National Heritage Area. The Friends of Friendship will coordinate its sailing program.

Nationally known for its hands-on marine science, environmental education and maritime history programs. More than 78,000 K-12 students and 6,000 teachers annually participate in the Institute's 61 award-winning, immersion style programs. To learn oceanography and science, students voyage onto the ocean to feel and taste the salty sea spray, sort through live specimens, observe migrating whales and collect scientific data. To learn maritime history and literature, students spend an entire night aboard the brig Pilgrim—each student hauling lines, hoisting sails, standing night watch and swabbing decks.
